OBA ADENLE I MEMORIAL ANGLICAN CHURCH FUND RAISING
The land for the initial church building was gifted to the Anglican Church, the successor Mission to the Church Missionary Society (C.M.S.) during Oba Adenle’s reign. It is located at Dagbolu, then a farming rural community where Oba Adenle had a cocoa plantation; it was not far from Osogbo but has now become a settlement that requires a bigger church.
Osogbo, then under the Diocese of Ibadan, is now an Episcopacy with many Archdeaconries. The old church at Dagbolu has become too small to accommodate parishioners and this led to the Bishop of the Diocese, The Rt. Rev. J. Popoola including the town in the list of areas where the Church had to expand its presence and having the Diocese provide the seed money to build a new and bigger structure.
In honor of the many contributions that Late Oba Adenle made to the Anglican Mission in Osun he also donated the land on which Osogbo Grammar School, a community school that sent its students to the All Saints Anglican Church from inception, and was headed by Late Canon Omigbodun for decades – the church was Christened Oba Adenle Memorial Church.
The foundation stone was laid at a ceremony presided over by Bishop Popoola on October 23, 2012, and the construction work has started but barely so because a lot still needs to be done as can be seen in a recent photograph shown here.
This is why the family is appealing to the public in Nigeria and wherever the descendants are in the world to contribute to this very worthy cause. We will greatly appreciate contributions of cash and/or building materials from our friends at home and abroad.
